The Alaska Mission Operations Center renovation updates an existing facility at JBER to meet modern operational and security requirements. Originally constructed in 1954, the building required substantial interior and system upgrades to support today’s mission tempo and comply with ICD/ICS 705 standards. Explore Design led architectural services for the design-build team, working closely with USACE and the Maryland Procurement Office to guide the project from programming through construction.

The renovation is a full slab-to-slab effort, replacing partitions, finishes, stairs, and every major system. SCIF zones were redesigned to maintain strict security separation, with all boundaries, utilities, and pathways detailed to avoid breaches. The project also includes structural improvements, updated circulation patterns, and reconfigured work areas to align with mission-directed workflows. Integrated telecom, fire protection, mechanical, and electrical systems support secure operations. ExD provided furniture procurement for both classified and mission-critical areas.

Phased delivery was essential for maintaining uninterrupted occupancy. The design team coordinated closely with multiple user groups to develop a sequencing plan that kept secure systems online throughout construction.
