At A Glance

  • Renovation of a 1950s AWACS hangar
  • New construction, two-story Alert Crew Facility addition
  • SCIF areas designed to ICD/ICS 705 standards

This project modernizes a legacy AWACS hangar at JBER through a full renovation and seismic strengthening of the facility. The upgraded hangar supports aircraft operations, maintenance shops, administrative functions, and secure SCIF areas designed to meet ICD/ICS 705 criteria.

Beside the renovated hangar, a new Alert Crew Facility was added to support uninterrupted mission readiness. The first floor provides office and training areas for the squadron. The second floor houses living quarters designed for round-the-clock occupation, including bedrooms, a kitchen, and a dayroom.

Both buildings were designed to function as a unified complex that meets JBER’s architectural standards. Site work improved drainage, reorganized vehicle circulation, and expanded high-security access. Coffman Engineers provided mechanical, electrical, civil, fire protection, acoustical, and landscape services. Their structural team completed an ASCE 41 Tier II seismic evaluation that identified key areas requiring modification, helping the design-build team target upgrades efficiently. The result is a modernized, mission-ready facility that supports evolving Air Force operations.
