ExD led the design of a new 84-person dormitory at Clear Space Force Station in Alaska, providing high-quality apartment-style housing for unaccompanied service members. The three-story facility includes studio and one-bedroom units arranged around a central commons with a dayroom, reading lounges, and space for creative work. The design supports wellness and privacy while fostering community connection.
Given the extreme weather and limited daylight available at Clear for much of the year, the project focused on creating a living environment that is both resilient and restorative. A manager’s office overlooks the main entry and elevator. A heated, enclosed walkway connects the dormitory to other facilities on base, ensuring year-round protected access.
The facility’s layout, finishes, and systems reflect a broader commitment to human-centered, mission-ready design – delivering durable infrastructure that meets DoD performance standards while supporting the day-to-day lives of those who serve.
