The Mountain View Branch Library brings new life to a facility that had been closed for decades, transforming it into a welcoming community resource for one of Anchorage’s most diverse neighborhoods. This project combined the existing space with a new addition to create a library tailored to learning, gathering, and cultural connection.

Working with the Municipality of Anchorage, the design team created flexible areas for programs and events, expanded library stacks, and a new learning center. The library supports Alaska’s first multicultural materials collection, offering books in several languages and incorporating multilingual environmental graphics that reflect the identity of the surrounding community. Sustainability was central to the project. The building maximizes daylight, improves energy performance, and uses native landscaping that requires no irrigation. These strategies helped the Mountain View Branch Library become the first LEED-certified building in the Municipality of Anchorage, achieving LEED Gold.
