Garrett’s passion for architecture starts and ends with people. He thrives on the collaboration between architect and client, the trust, creativity, and shared discovery that turn good projects into lasting relationships. Raised between Anchorage winters and summers drift netting in Naknek, he brings an innate understanding of northern design and the craft it requires.
Garrett’s curiosity began with drawing and clothing design in high school, a fascination with texture and connection that now shapes his architectural work, from how materials feel to how sound moves through a space. His goal is always a complete sensory experience, grounded in authenticity and care.
When he’s not leading projects or building his own home addition, Garrett can be found writing and playing music with his two Anchorage-based bands, exploring new places, or contributing to Alaska’s creative community through organizations like the Alaska Design Forum and the Association for Learning Environments.

Centennial Hall is in the heart of the Sitka community, literally and figuratively. The beautiful site, perched on the water’s edge next to the harbor, was an inspiration. Not only is this project a cultural hub for Sitka, but it is also a legacy project for Explore Design. Co-founder John McCool designed the original building to win the competition in 1967. For Garrett, extending the legacy of John’s design was an honor.
